At BituChem, we take great pride in supporting projects at heritage properties throughout the UK. We understand the importance of striking a balance between the modern, practical needs of a property and the preservation of areas of historical and cultural significance.

Surfacing is a big consideration in projects involving heritage properties. Access for all is the main priority, therefore surfacing needs to be smooth, robust and durable enough to withstand all types of use, as is ensuring the type of surfacing is sympathetic to the surrounding environment.

In this article, we’ll explore the many properties of NatraTex that make it a great choice for heritage properties.

NatraTex For Heritage Properties

NatraTex is an asphalt surface course with similar characteristics to conventional macadam. It can be used for a wide range of applications, including the creation of high-quality and aesthetically pleasing pedestrian walkways, housing developments, retail areas, public highways, decorative landscaping and prestigious estates.

For heritage properties, NatraTex Cotswold is an excellent choice. A cost-effective, multipurpose surfacing material, it is available in two buff tones that are sympathetic to the surrounding environment and in keeping with the aesthetic of historic buildings and sites.

Another advantage of using NatraTex Cotswold for heritage sites is that it offers unrivalled performance. It is very low maintenance, which means it always looks its best, and as it is an asphalt surface there is no risk of stone migration or trailing stones which can impede those using mobility aids or equipment.

Heritage Projects Using NatraTex

We have had the privilege of being a part of many heritage projects over the decades. This includes resurfacing the running track located in Duke of York Square, Chelsea. This running track was used by Roger Bannister, the athlete famed for the first sub-four-minute mile run, and so it was important the track be preserved and protected for future generations. In this resurfacing project, NatraTex Colour Red was used to restore the running track to its former glory and create a smooth, low maintenance, usable surface in replacement of the existing, failing coloured surface.

NatraTex Cotswold was also used to create decorative footpaths at Bath Spa University. Being such a historic setting, it was specified that the surfacing used must be hard-wearing while being sympathetic to the surrounding university buildings. Naturally, NatraTex Cotswold was the first choice for this project thanks to its warm tones which compliment the honey-coloured limestone of the university buildings wonderfully.
